Phase One P65+ and CaptureOne Pro 4.5 are OUT!!!

Last week I was able to participate in another showcase/demonstration of equipment. This time was the new P65+ Digital Back (60.5 MP) from Phase One and the new release of their capture and raw processing software Capture One Pro 4.5 now available for a free trial download at
Phase One.com . This is yet another amazing piece of machine married with a proprietary capture and raw processing software, which delivers an incredible amount of information and detail.  I'm not going to get into the technical specs of the new P65+ nor the version 4.5 of Capture One Pro (for those go to PhaseOne.com), but the results that I saw on an Eizo display were impressive. The detail shown on a model's skin is "almost" too much. I could basically see inside her pores. Nonetheless this detail is always welcome, but it does come with a price when you try to process and manipulate this incredibly large files. Today, top of the line machines are managing these tasks in a "OK" level. It's time for computer manufactures to crank out faster machines, with more RAM capacity (laptops) and more affordable prices considering that we have to replace them more or less every couple of years.

Hasselblad University

On Tuesday October 7th, I participated in the first official Hasselblad University, which is a pompous name for a workshop, held at Splashlight Studios in Miami. The purpose of this workshop was to introduce and train photographers and techs on the new Hasselblad cameras (H3DII-31/39/50) and most importantly their new capturing and raw processing software called Phocus. The cameras I have to say need no further introduction considering their established reputation. Their new dedicated digital backs on the other hand come to take a share in the market if not a whole bunch of other brand's shares. Communication between camera and back is no issue and microscopic matching between them make focal planes of lens and digital sensor extremely precise. The Phocus software, even though uses the same processing engine as FlexColor, Hasselblad's previous version of capture and raw processing software, has a completely new interface, much like Adobe's Photoshop Lightroom with several adaptations for it's capture capabilities. After going over the program's features and a bit of testing, it seems easy to use, specially if you are familiar with Lightroom. There is still a lot of room for improvement in the software, which as of now is on version 1.1. Hopefully by version 2.0 the majority of the requests and issues will be resolved and that, in my humble opinion will make the Hasselblad "package" a force to reckon in the digital medium format war.

Thanks to John Williams (Hasselblad Atlanta) and Greg Hollmann (Hasselblad New York) for coming down to Miami and putting this together.

A New Website a New Beginning...finally a BLOG

After months of selecting, editing and retouching images, and tirelessly working on the design and navigation of the site with the LiveBooks design team, I am glad to announce the launch of the new Claudio Beier Photography website. It really feels like a new beginning. Tons of comments and critics were made right after I communicated the launch. Thank you all for your inputs. It's incredibly interesting and refreshing to hear several different opinions. It certainly broadens one's perspective, If you are open to it of course. In continuation of this "New Beginning" I'm launching the Claudio Beier Photography BLOG. The objective of this blog will be to show the other side of the final photographs, the behind the scenes shots, the productions involved, share opinions on current trends, display before and afters, and post general news and everything else that is going on with Claudio Beier photography.

Hope you all enjoy.

Cheers,

Claudio.
